Statue of Charles de Gaulle, located in front of Gare du Sud (South Railway Station), General de Gaulle Square, Nice.

One of France’s most notable statesmen, de Gaulle led the French Resistance against the Germans during World War 2 as the leader of Free France. He later went on to serve as Prime Minister from 1958 to 1959 and then President of France from 1959 until 1969. The main airport in Paris is named after him as are numerous squares, streets, and buildings throughout France.
